Porcelain Bowl — Blue Sea Wave

Wheel-thrown porcelain, approx. 37.5cm diameter.

Rows of overlapping arcs run across the bowl in a scaled, wave-like pattern, drawing on the traditional seigaiha, or 'blue sea wave', motif. Each arc is a fan of fine raised lines springing from a single point. At the foot of every arc, iron-red gathers and blooms, rust catching against a speckled blue-grey ground. The trailed lines stand proud of the surface, the glaze breaking pale along their ridges and pooling darker between them.

Hand-decorated; the lines are trailed in glaze and stand slightly raised, the iron blushing red where it gathers at the base of each crest.
